Having just returned from a major powerlifting competition, I have to wonder what makes you decide on a coach? Is it his/her experience as a lifter? Perhaps experience as a coach? Referral from someone else or was it just their Instagram or Tik Tok videos?

Just because a person has lifted and maybe set a state record or two does not mean they are qualified as a coach. They may simply be taking what they learned from someone else that uses a “one size fits all” approach and pass it on to you. Look at their track record as a coach – do their lifters win, do they constantly improve, or do they have a record of lifters bombing out of the meet?

Do they know nutrition and how to help you set up a healthy diet plan? Have they studied coaching and studied the sport?

Don’t make the decision simply because they market themselves well. Ask hard questions and make sure you are spending your money wisely.
