I have witnessed some strange things at recent meets. Coaches on facetime because they could not or would not come to the competitions. The issue here is that the lifters had someone hold the phone for them while on the platform so the coach could see the attempt – but they were not lined up with the judges, so the view was obscured or not at the right angle. The coaches then told the lifters to add weight to failed attempts. Why? If the lift was not good and you did not ask the referees why it was red lighted, why is your coach telling you to go up in weight?

Coaches if you are charging someone good money for advice and training, make sure it is good advice and that you are familiar with the rules. Also, coaches, do not yell at the referees because you did not like the call. READ THE RULE BOOK and ask questions. Don’t fail your lifters because of your lack of knowledge of the rules.
